Anti-terrorist operations carried out by the security forces are achieving success but the common people as well as the government have their apprehensions.

The suicide bomb attacks started in 2005 and as many as four attacks took place during the year. The attacks occurred are on 14th November when Judges were attacked in Jhalkati Court, Gazipur and at Chittagong Courts on 29th November and again on 8th December in the office premise of Udichi at Netrokona. JMB continued these suicide attacksas a part of their serial blasts which they carried out throughout the country on 17th August. On 13th March, 2006, during a police operation to arrest JMB leader Mullah Omar, his wife blew herself to avoid arrest.
The government is concerned about the increasein suicide attacks and especially by the female militants.  Police and the intelligence agency uncovered many shocking revelations after their interrogation of some of the arrested. The suicide bomb attack by a female member took place in Bangladesh after a gap of about one year during the recent police operation in Askona, Dhaka and also direct involvement of a female suicide bombers after ten years.

All banned terrorists organisations have their separate female wing but the New JMB is using their family members in forming their suicide squad. They train the family members of the killed, arrested and absconded terrorists. In addition, they increase their numbers by marrying orthodox/religious persons and also instigate their children to join the squad. The police unearthedthis informationfromtheir enquiry after the recent operations. The police although do not have the exact number of the female militants. The banned militant organisation Hisbut Tahrir is well in the forefront for recruiting female militants. They have a wing called “Chatri Mukti Sangha” (Female Liberation Organisation), which target various students from Universities, Medical Colleges and other famous education institutions for their cadre.

After a gap of about ten years, there were planned attacksin 2015 but they were not discussed much.  The change in the attitude of the security forces was observed after the 1st July incident.   The last suicide attack in 2015 took place on 25th December in Ahmadia Mosque at Baghmara, Rajshahi.

The first female militants came into notice on 15th May, 2009 during a police operation at North Pirerbgag area to arrest then JMB military commander Jahidul Islam @ Bomb Mijan.  His wife, Halima Begum, challenged the security forces by surprising them. The wives of JMB’s Bangla Bhai, Saikh Abdur Rahman and Abdul Awal were also active and involved in militant activities. After the execution of JMB leaders they were lying low for some time and now have started their activities in a new way.  The female militants are in constant touch with top absconding leaders.

In terrorism one cannot separate a male terrorist or a female terrorist. A terrorist is a terrorist but the female terroriststake advantage of being a woman and commit despicable activities. To stop that, people must come forward and assist the government to change in the mind-set of terrorists from terrorism and to bring them in the main stream. It may be necessary to find the root cause to solve it as it may not be possible to change them by security operations only.
