It is said that the equipment reached the outer port of Mongla seaport of Bangladesh at 11 am yesterday (October 19) after crossing about 14,000 kilometers from Volga of the Russian Federation by sea.

Today (Tuesday) at 4 pm these equipments reached Mongla port. The project area of ​​Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant These equipments will be transferred from the ocean-going ships of the Russian Federation to the local special barges of Bangladesh. It is expected to start its journey from Mongla port on November 5. The equipment will reach the newly constructed Rooppur seaport on the river Rooppur nuclear power plant construction project area at Padmapara on November 21 via Chandpur by river.

The shipment of large equipment such as nuclear reactor pressure vessels and steam generators at the Rooppur nuclear power plant is a major step forward in the project. In October 2013, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of a nuclear power plant at Rooppur in Ishwardi. On November 30, 2016, he inaugurated the construction of the main concrete installation for the furnace of the first unit of the power plant.

The first unit with a capacity of 1,200 MW will be launched in 2022 and the second unit of the same capacity in 2023. The government will get the first unit in 2023 and the second unit in 2024 from the construction company.
On December 25, 2015, the Atomic Energy Commission of Bangladesh signed the original agreement with the Russian company Atomstroy Export for the construction of Rooppur nuclear power plant. According to the agreement, the construction of the 2,400-megawatt power plant will cost just over Rs 1 lakh crore (US হাজার 1,275 crore).

Huge work is going on on 1,072 acres of land in the project area of ​​Rooppur. The construction of various infrastructures of the first phase has already been completed.

Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant is being built with Russian assistance. Russia is providing 90 percent of the total cost of the project as loan assistance. The project will use a state-of-the-art (three plus generation) VVER 1200 nuclear reactor invented by Russia. Each reactor has a capacity of 1200 MW.

Construction of the main infrastructure of the second unit of the nuclear power plant started on July 14, 2016. On the same day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first concrete pouring day (FCD) of the power plant.
