Actor Shah Rukh Khan turns 49 today

Mumbai, Nov 2 : The King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, whose latest film 'Happy New Year' has already crossed the Rs. 100-crore mark and is continuing to set cash ringing at the Box Office, turned 49 years of age on Sunday.

Thanking his fans on for their well wishes on his special day, Khan tweeted: "So many beautiful people outside Mannat. Thank you all for celebrating my birthday with such ownership and love. Very humbling…"

 

According to reports, the actor will celebrate his birthday by throwing a grand bash where the who\'s who of B-Town will attend.

 

Born in 1965, Khan started his acting career with theatres and television serials like ‘Fauji’, and ‘Circus’.

 

Though Khan’s first Bollywood venture was ‘Dil Aashna Hai’, due to production delay it was released after his second film ‘Deewana’ and became a box office hit. He won Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for ‘Deewana’ even after playing a supporting role.

 

Khan soon bagged author backed roles but most of them were with negative shades, often as a killer on the prowl. Notable among them are Darr in 1993 where he played an obsessive lover. Baazigar is also another film where he played a murderer in the same year. A year later followed Anjaam, again as the obsessive lover and a psychopathic killer though paired opposite Madhuri Dixit.

 

Few years after his debut in Bollywood, he starred in ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ opposite actress Kajol. The film helped build his image as a romantic hero and made him the King of Romance in Bollywood.

 

He continued to play the image of romantic hero in films like ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Mohabbatein’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Om Shanti Om’, and ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ among other films.

 

His roles in films like ‘Swades’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, ‘Chak De! India’ have been widely appreciated by the critics.

 

The actor has won eight Filmfare Award in the category of Best Actor, which makes him the most awarded Bollywood actor of all time in that category, tied only with Dilip Kumar.

 

Khan also owns a production company Dreamz Unlimited and occupies the position of CEO and co-chairman of the motion picture production and distribution company Red Chillies Entertainment and the animation studio Red Chillies VFX.

 

He is also co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders along with Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta.

 

Khan has also worked as a television presenter in a popular gaming show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.

 

Khan is married to interior designer, Gauri Khan and the couple has three children.

 

The actor will be next seen on screen with his upcoming film \'Raees\', directed by Rohan Dholakia.

 

In 2005, he has been awarded with the Padma Shri by the Government of India for his contributions towards Indian cinema.

Actress Shruti Haasan wished the actor posting: "Happy birthday to my most favourite ever !!! @iamsrk"

 

Actor-director Farhan Akhtar tweeted: "May you continue burning bright. Happy Birthday Shahrukh. @iamsrk"

 

Actor Boman Irani, who shared the screen space with Khan in Happy New Year tweeted: "It is a grace to be loved by millions that you have touched yet never met. I know I have surely \'met\' you too. Happy birthday @iamsrk."

 

Director Farah Khan tweeted: "@iamsrk happy bday CHAMP!!"

 

Actress Dia Mirza also wished saying: "The man that always makes me smile celebrates his birthday today:) #HappyBirthdaySRK"
