Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 18: The Padma Bridge is not part of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). No foreign aid was taken for the construction of the bridge.

A statement from the Foreign Ministry on Friday (June 17) night said that some quarters were trying to portray Padma Bridge as part of the Belt and Road initiative (BRI) and saying it was built with foreign funding.

The Belt and Road Initiative is a Chinese-initiated strategy to establish direct road and sea links between Asia and Africa and Europe. The goal of the Belt and Road Initiative is to increase regional connectivity and speed up trade and economy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to say unequivocally that the entire bridge was built with the funding of the Government of Bangladesh and no bilateral or multilateral organization has contributed financially to it. It has been implemented through domestic and foreign construction companies.
