Nor'wester 102 kmph nor'wester, thunderstorm lash Dhaka
Dhaka, May 24: Nor'wester storm has swept over the capital Dhaka at a speed of 102 km per hour. On Tuesday, May 23, around 5 pm, nor'wester swept over different parts of Dhaka. Then it started raining heavily around 5:45 pm. Due to storms and rains, the heat has reduced and relief has returned to the city life.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum speed of the storm over the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area was recorded at 102 km per hour. There were clouds in the sky of Dhaka since Tuesday morning. It was accompanied by the discomfort of hot summer. In the afternoon, the sky is covered with dark clouds. Kalbaisakhi begins. Then came heavy rain. 20 mm of rain in Dhaka till 9 pm. Meteorologists said that this trend of rain and storm may continue for the next two days.
Meteorologist Omar Farooq said that in the next 24 hours from 6 pm on Tuesday, many places in Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and some places in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions may experience rain with gusty winds or thunder. During this time, day and night temperatures may drop slightly across the country.
He also said that a mild heat wave is flowing over Rajshahi, Pabna, Madaripur and Moulvibazar districts including Khulna division and it may continue. Stating that rainfall with rain or thunder may continue for the next two days, he further said, "The trend of rainfall with rain or thunder may increase in the next five days."
The highest temperature in the country was 36.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday. This temperature was recorded in Khulna, Jessore and Chuadanga. The maximum temperature in Dhaka was 34.8 degree Celsius. The rain increased on Tuesday across the country. It rained in all the divisions. During this period, the highest rainfall of 42 mm was recorded in Kumarkhali of Kushtia. As much as 20 mm of rain has fallen in Dhaka till 9 pm.
