11,000 hospital beds reserved for Covid patients lying empty

Dhaka, April 20: Out of 15,663 beds in government and private hospitals set up for the treatment of Covid-19 patients, more than 11,000 beds are lying vacant. Additional Director General Professor Nasima Sultana, who joined the regular bulletin of the Department of Health, gave this information on the latest situation of coronavirus in the country on Friday.

An analysis of the Health Department's bulletin sent on Friday shows that 4,279 out of 15,131 general beds in various hospitals across the country have patients. And 10,852 general beds are empty.

On the other hand, out of 532 ICU beds, 306 have been occupied by patients and 226 ICU beds are vacant.

Professor Nasima Sultana said that 2,103 patients are admitted in the general beds of Dhaka city hospitals. And there are 184 patients in ICU.

In Chittagong, 288 patients are admitted in general beds and 22 in ICUs.

Besides, there are 1.888 patients in general beds and 100 patients in ICU in other hospitals of the country.

As the number of regular coronavirus infections continues to rise, public-private hospitals are being set up to treat the disease and some medical centers are being set up. One of them is Bashundhara Covid-19 Hospital in Kurile, Dhaka.

The specially built hospital has 2,013 beds but only 15 patients are admitted there. The hospital has 1,998 empty beds. The hospital does not have ICU facility.

On the other hand, Rajarbagh Police Hospital has 737 vacancies; The hospital has 1,027 beds, including general and ICU beds.

There are 326 vacancies in Dhaka Medical College Hospital and 368 vacancies in Impulse Hospital in the capital. Of the 56 ICU beds at Impulse Hospital, 49 are vacant.

Besides, no coronavirus patient has been admitted to Kamalapur Railway Hospital and Mohakhali Infectious Diseases Hospital. These two hospitals have 40 general beds.
