11.51% voter turnout recorded in Dhaka-17 by-polls

Dhaka, July 18: Returning officer Md. Munir Hossain Khan said that 11.51 percent votes were cast in the by-election of Dhaka-17 parliamentary seat. He gave this information while announcing the results of 124 centers on Monday (July 17) night. After 5 pm, the returning officer presented the results of various centres.

The returning officer said that the number of people cast their votes was 37,420. Among them, 37,037 were valid votes. 383 were cancelled. Among them, the ruling Awami League nominated candidate Mohammad Ali Arafat was elected privately by getting 28,816 votes in the boat symbol. His nearest rival, independent candidate Ashraful Hossain Alam alias Hero Alam got 5,609 votes in Ektara symbol.

Apart from this, Jatiya Party's plow symbol candidate Sikdar Anisur Rahman is in the third position after getting 1,328 votes. Apart from this, Zaker Party's Rose symbol candidate Kazi Md Rashidul Hasan got 923 votes, Bangladesh Cultural Liberation Jota's Chari symbol candidate Md Aktar Hossain got 64 votes, Bangladesh Congress Dub symbol Md Rezaul Islam Swapan got 43 votes, Trinamool BNP's Sonali Ansh symbol candidate. Sheikh Habibur Rahman got 202 votes and independent candidate Md. Tarekul Islam Bhuyan got 52 votes.

Earlier, after polling started at 8 am, it was seen that the voter turnout was very low. The people in charge of polling are seen spending idle time. It was thought that the turnout will increase as the day progresses. But even though it was noon, various centers were very empty. Election related officials also expressed disappointment with such low voter turnout.

Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir told reporters in the afternoon after the polling that we have not received the exact percentage of votes cast in Dhaka-17 constituency. But very few votes. It is expected to be 12 to 13 percent, with a maximum of 14 to 15 percent.
