Accident 16 killed in road accidents in seven districts
Dhaka, November 26: At least 16 people, including an Indian couple and a police constable, were killed in separate road accidents in Satkhira, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Gazipur, Feni, Munshiganj and Jessore.
Two Bangladeshis from Siliguri, West Bengal, India were killed in a collision between a private car and a truck at Taltala in Sadar Upazila of Satkhira.
The deceased are Asim Kumar Biswas (45) and his wife Chabi Biswas (42).
The accident took place in front of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Satkhira camp around 8 am on Thursday.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohidul Islam confirmed the truth of the incident and said that Asim was the deputy manager of the Khulna-Mongla railway project. He was going to India through Bhomra land port with his wife.
Quoting eyewitnesses, the OC said that when a Khulna-bound truck hit a private car, the couple was killed on the spot and the driver of the private car was seriously injured.
Five members of the same family were killed and one injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Rajshahi's Belpukur.
The deceased are Parveen Begum (35), Sharmin (17), Insab Ali (75), Ayub Ali Labu (35) and CNG driver Mokhleshur Rahman (35). The name of the injured person is Hridoy (18).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paba Highway Police Station Mofakkarul Islam said that a truck and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw collided in the Belpukur bypass area.
One died on the spot. The truck driver and his officials fled after the incident.
Three employees of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company were killed when they were hit by a truck on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
The accident took place in Mirsarai upazila around 7:30 am on Saturday.

Locals said that two workers died on the spot.
Another injured worker was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. His identity was not immediately known.
Joharganj Highway Police Outpost Sohel Sarkar said that the truck was seized and brought to the police station, but the driver managed to escape.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Constable Bitan Barua (30) was killed when a police van overturned after being hit by a lorry at Rajendrapur intersection in Gazipur.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gazipur Sadar Police Station Swapna Begum said that a police car overturned when the lorry hit it while taking a U-turn on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 4 am.
Feni: Two people, including an eight-month-old baby, were killed in a CNG-driven autorickshaw hit by a pickup van in Fulgazi Upazila, Feni. Five others were injured in the accident.
An old woman and her grandson were killed when a bus ran over them on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Ghazaria upazila of Munshiganj.
A teenager named Raj Babu (15) died on his way home in Benapole, Jessore.
