Own Correspondent, Dhaka, January 17: The 16th and 2022's first session of the 11th National Assembly has started in accordance with the health and hygiene norms amid the Corona pandemic.

The assembly session began on Sunday (January 16) at 4 pm at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.

It was initially decided to continue the session till January 26. However, if the Speaker of the National Assembly wants, she can extend the time. After the nomination of the presidium, acceptance of the condolence motion and the speech of the President, the session of the assembly has been adjourned till 11 am on Monday, January 17.

Earlier, the listed MPs entered the parliament in compliance with the health rules. Everyone had to show the Covid negative certificate or message. MPs are sitting in the Parliament building leaving the specific seats vacant to maintain distance from each other. It has been confirmed that everyone is wearing a face mask. Everyone had to use hand sanitizer at the gate of the tunnel. This is the winter session of the National Assembly. According to the constitution, the President addressed the first session of the year.

The presidium was nominated at the beginning of the session on Sunday. They will preside over the sittings of Parliament in the absence of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker. Then a condolence motion was brought. After the condolence motion, the President addressed the house. After that the session of Parliament was adjourned.

Members of Parliament will be able to go to Parliament in rotation like other sessions of the Corona period. Before that, everyone has to be tested negative for Covid-19. However, Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina, Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad (out of the country due to illness), Chief Whip of Parliament Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader, Chief Whip of the Opposition Moshiur Rahman Ranga will be able to attend every sitting of Parliament.

According to the concerned branch of the Parliament Secretariat, there are several laws to be enacted this time. Four new draft laws have been submitted in the Parliament. These are Private Medical College and Dental College Bill, Bangladesh Tourism Corporation (Amendment) Bill, Trade Organization Bill and Payments and Settlements Bill. Besides, the previous seven bills are under examination in the parliamentary committee.
