Dhaka, April 10: Getting a bed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of both public and private hospitals for the treatment of dying corona patients in the capital is becoming increasingly scarce. The demand for ICUs in various public and private hospitals has multiplied due to the recent alarming rise in the number of cases of the virus.

At present, the ICU beds of almost every hospital are full of dying corona patients. It is not possible to treat many dying patients in ICU as there are no empty beds. ICU beds are no longer available on the recommendation of ministers, secretaries, politicians, businessmen and medical leaders.

ICU doctors say that if the bed is not empty, they are helpless no matter how big the recommendation is or how many dying patients there are. They said the beds in the ICU do not become empty unless a patient dies or recovers.

Kabari, a well-known Bengali film actor, actress and former Member of Parliament, is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of Gastroliver Hospital in Mohakhali. According to the responsible sources of the hospital, 82 percent of his lungs have been infected in Corona. He is running oxygen in a 60 liter high flow nasal cannula in ICU. He was treated at Kurmitola Hospital in the capital.

When Kabari's physical condition deteriorated, it became necessary to transfer him to the ICU. His relatives searched for the ICU bed in Kurmitola as there was no empty ICU bed. An ICU bed was arranged for the renowned actress at the highest level of recommendation. He added that it is easy to understand the enormity of the ICU bed where the highest level of recommendation is required. He advised everyone to follow the hygiene rules without considering corona as a common disease.

According to the Department of Health (April 9), nine of the 10 government hospitals currently dedicated to corona treatment have a total of 132 ICU beds. Of these, 129 patients are admitted. Only one hospital has four empty beds. Although four beds are supposed to be empty, a hospital has more patients than the number of ICU beds.

Not just in government; Of the nine private hospitals, not a single bed is vacant. The total number of ICU beds in the nine private hospitals dedicated to Corona is 183. At present only two hospitals have 14 empty beds.
