17 lakh doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine arrives in Bangladesh from China

Dhaka, August 11: Another 17 lakh doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China has arrived in Bangladesh under through the COVAX facility. The jabs reached Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday (August 10) at 7:30 pm.

Group Captain Touhid-ul Ahsan, executive director of Shahjalal International Airport, said 17 lakh doses of vaccine had arrived at Shahjalal International Airport from China. A team from the Directorate General of Health Service has already received the vaccine.

Earlier, the flight departed from Beijing Airport at 5:15 am local time with 17 lakh vaccines. In the first phase, 20 lakh vaccines bought commercially from China arrived on July 3. And in the second phase, on July 17, another 20 lakh vaccines came. Another 30 lakh vaccines were received on July 30.

However, this is the first time the vaccine has come from China through the COVAX facility.

Besides, China has given 11 lakh vaccines to Bangladesh in two phases as gifts. In the first phase, on May 12, China gifted five lakh doses of Sinopharm jabs to Bangladesh and in the second phase, Beijing donated another six lakh doses of the vaccine.
