17th session of the Parliament to start on March 28

Dhaka, March 10: The 17th session of the 11th National Assembly will begin on March 28. The session will be held at 5:00 pm on that day, according to Director (Public Relations) of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Md. Tariq Mahmud.

He said that President Md. Abdul Hamid has convened the seventeenth (second) session of the Eleventh Jatiya Sangsad on March 26 (Monday) at 5 pm in the Parliament Room of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The President has convened this session in accordance with the powers conferred by Article 72 (1) of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

As a rule, another session has to be convened within 60 days after the end of one session. On January 27, the 16th and the first winter session of the year ended.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Standing Committee has recommended to work for the prevention of road accidents by simplifying the curved roads and keeping the transportation system intact during road repairs. The recommendation was made at the 13th meeting of the Standing Committee on Road Transport and Bridges held at the Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday (March 10).

The meeting discussed the latest status and implementation progress of the overall development project under Rajshahi zone of the Department of Roads and Highways and the latest progress of the overall work of the multi-lane road tunnel construction (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel) project under the Karnafuli river.

It was recommended at the committee meeting to complete the work of all the projects within the stipulated time without increasing the time to ensure transparency and accountability in the overall activities including the ongoing development projects under Rajshahi zone of the Roads and Highways Department. The committee also recommended the ministry to take appropriate steps to direct the deputy commissioners to ensure that the money acquired from the government reaches the real owners as soon as possible.
