Myanmar's military has resumed airstrikes in Rakhine after the Arakan Army seized a Maungdoo police checkpoint and killed a policeman.

Thailand-based Myanmar daily Irrawaddy says the Arakan Army killed 19 Myanmar policemen on Wednesday after capturing a checkpoint in Maungdoo town near the Bangladesh border. At that time, members of the Arakan Army looted firearms, ammunition and other weapons from that check post.

Two more fighter jets and two helicopters attacked again in the afternoon.

Myanmar's junta says troops are moving towards the area of Maungdu to recapture a border guard checkpoint. This campaign has increased the number of troops and the amount of ammunition.

Local villagers said the ground shook due to the bombardment by planes and helicopters. The sound of the bomb was so loud that many were deaf for a while.

As members of the Arakan Army started attacking the border areas, new conflicts with the junta forces have spread in and around Paletwa, Chin State, Myanmar, Maungdoo, in the northern part of Rakhine, since August 2.

Myanmar troops have been firing 300 to 400 rounds a day from six ground bases, along with warplanes and helicopters, since the Arakan Army attack. Residents of Maungdoo and neighboring Buthidung have fled their homes as attacks by Myanmar's military have intensified.
