2 Chhatra Dal leaders arrested while preparing sabotage in police remand, 4 others sent to jail

Dhaka, August 21: A court granted two-day remand to two of the six Chhatra Dal leaders who were arrested during the planning a sabotage. At the same time, the court ordered to send four others arrested in the same case to jail.

The remanded accused are Mominul Islam alias Jisan (31), joint general secretary of Chhatra Dal's Dhaka University branch, and Md. Arif Billa (30), former deputy general secretary of Chhatra Dal's private university branch.

The accused who went to jail are Dhaka University Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Md. Abdullah R Riad (29), Vice President Md Hasanur Rahman alias Hasan (32), Chhatra Dal Central Parliament Co-Organizing Secretary Md. Shahadat Hossain (31) and Jahangirnagar University Chhatra Dal's former senior joint general secretary Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar (32).

Police produced them in court on Sunday. After that, for the sake of proper investigation of the case, the accused Mominul and Arif Billa were requested to be remanded for five days. He requested to keep the other four accused in jail. On the other hand, the lawyers of the parties asked for cancellation of their remand and bail. After the hearing, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam gave this order.

Earlier on Saturday they were arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB). Later, a case was filed against them under Arms and Special Powers Act at Lalbagh police station.
