20 lakh 36 thousand meters of illegal nets seized during hilsa protection drive
Dhaka, October 12: As per the instructions of the government, the Bangladesh Navy is conducting special operations in the sea and coastal areas to implement the 22-day fishing ban during the hilsa breeding season. To this end, seven naval ships are conducting operations. During the operation, 20 lakh 36 thousand meters of illegal nets and 300 kg of hilsa worth about Tk 8 crore 11 lakh were seized.
This information was given by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate on Monday (October 11).
The seized illegal nets were destroyed in the presence of local administration, law enforcement agencies and fisheries officials and the seized hilsa was distributed to local orphanages.
The campaign started on October 4 and will continue till October 25. During the operation, the naval personnel are providing all possible assistance to the local administration in implementing the government ban on catching hilsa during the breeding season and creating public awareness.
