21st session of Parliament sitting today
Dhaka, Jan 5: The 21st session of the 11th National Parliament and the first session of the year begins today Thursday (January 5).
Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the Parliament session at 4 pm today.
Before this, the working advisory committee meeting will be held at 3 pm on Thursday under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, opposition leaders and members of the committee will be present in it. In this meeting, the working day of the session and the nomination of members of the presidium will be given.
Awami League's parliamentary deputy leader will be nominated in this parliamentary session. The post became vacant after the death of Awami League presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, as it is the first session of the year, President Md. Abdul Hamid will address the first day of the session. This will be his last speech in Parliament. Later there will be a general discussion on the motion of thanks on his speech. Finally, the motion of thanks will be adopted by the National Assembly.
There is a constitutional obligation to convene the next session within 60 days after the end of a session. The 20th session of the Parliament ended on November 6.
According to sources, a total of 17 bills may be raised in the 21st session. Among these, at least seven to eight bills can be passed. There are 10 bills that were not passed in the last 20th session. The law wing said that seven new bills have been submitted.
