22 die with coronavirus, 261 new cases registered within 24 hours

Dhaka, May 15: Coronavirus has killed 22 more people across the country in the last 24 hours. Among them were 17 men and five women. Of the 22 dead, 18 died at government hospitals and four at private hospitals. With this, the total number of deaths in the deadly disease in the country rose to 12,124.

Besides, 261 new cases have been added in the last 24 hours. In all, the number of coronavirus patients in the country stood at 7,79,796.

A press release signed by Additional Director General (Administration) of the Department of Health Prof Dr Nasima Sultana on Saturday (May 15th) said that 3,687 samples were collected and 3,758 samples were tested in 459 public and private laboratories in the last 24 hours. The total number of sample tests is 57,02,286.

In the last 24 hours, the patient identification rate as a sample test is 6.95 percent. So far, the patient identification rate is 13.68 percent.

Meanwhile, 964 people recovered in the last 24 hours. So far, 7,21,435 patients have recovered. The recovery rate is 92.52 percent.

According to divisional statistics, 13 people died in Dhaka division, eight in Chittagong and one in Khulna divisions died.

On March 8 last year, coronavirus was detected in the bodies of three people in the country. Ten days later, on March 18, one among the infected persons died, thus marking the first Covid-death in the country.
