27 people kidnapped from Teknaf in last 27 days

Dhaka, March 28: Miscreants have kidnapped seven people, including four teenagers, from Teknaf hilly area of Cox's Bazar in 24 hours.

Five of them were kidnapped while they were working in vegetable fields on Wednesday (March 27) afternoon and two were abducted on Tuesday (March 26) evening from Hoikyong Kharangkhali Kombaniya Para Hill in Teknaf. A total of 27 people have been kidnapped in the last 27 days.

The abductees are Mohammad Noor (15), Ali Ahmed (30), Shakeel Mia (15), Md. Junaid (13), Md. Saiful (14), Md. Farid (25) and Sona Mia (24). Hoikang Union Parishad Chairman Noor Ahmed Anwari shared this information.

Quoting the families of the victims, the UP Chairman said that five laborers were abducted while guarding the vegetable fields on Wednesday afternoon as usual. A ransom of Tk 3 lakh has been demanded from their families.

On Tuesday morning, Mohammad Noor went to ride cows next to the mountain. Around noon, suddenly a group of armed miscreants came down from the hill and took him and a woodcutter named Ali Ahmed hostage at gunpoint onto the hill. In the evening, their family members were contacted and a ransom of Tk 2 lakh were demanded from them.

The UP chairman also said that due to the rise in kidnapping cases day by day, the people living in the mountains including farmers and laborers are living in insecurity.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station Muhammad Osman Gani said that a police team is conducting search operations on the hill to rescue the victims after receiving information about the kidnapping.
