3,845 traders affected in Bangabazar fire

Dhaka, April 12: The investigation committee formed by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has submitted the final report regarding the fire incident in Bangabazar. According to the investigation report submitted to DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday afternoon, 3,845 businessmen were affected in Bangbazar fire.

Marina Nazneen, president of the committee and Regional Executive Officer of Region-1 of the Corporation submitted this report to the Mayor. At that time, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation Md. Mizanur Rahman, Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque, Chief Social Welfare and Slum Development Officer Akand Mohammad Faisal Uddin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ramna Revenue Circle Muhammad Mamunul Haque and Councilor of Reserved Seat-5 Roksana Islam Chameli were among the committee members were present.

Meanwhile, in the twenty-ninth board meeting of the second council of the corporation at the Nagar Bhaban Mayor Mohammad Hanif Auditorium on Tuesday, Mayor Barrister Sheikh Tapas has announced that specific funds will be allocated in the announced budget every year to stand by the victims of any disaster in the Dhaka South City Corporation area.

He said, "Our Dhaka is a populous city. As a result of unplanned urbanization, accidents are constantly happening. Many accidents happen especially due to fire. But due to the lack of financial resources in this sector, we cannot stand by them in this humanitarian disaster. But every year we keep discretionary funds in the budget, keep specific allocations in different sectors. In order to deal with disasters in this way, we will present at the meeting the 'Humanitarian Assistance Policy on Disaster Response and Management, 1429'. If you approve it, under this policy, we will put financial resources to deal with disasters in every year's budget. So that we can stand by them in any disaster."

Later, the councilors unanimously approved the 'Humanitarian Assistance Policy on Disaster Response and Management, 1429' in the board meeting. Before this, in the board meeting, a standing committee on 'disaster management' was formed with Md. Sirajul Islam Bhatti, councilor of Ward No. 6, as the chairman. Ward No. 57 Md. Saiful Islam, Ward No. 37 Md. Abdur Rahman Miazi, Ward No. 9 Md. Mozammel Haque, Ward No. 32 Md. Abdul Mannan, Ward No. 23 Md. Maqbul Hossain, Reserved Seat 19 Shefali Akhter, Reserved Seat Farhana Yachmin Kuasha of 19 and Shamsun Nahar Bhuiyan of reserved seat 10 were made members of the committee.
