3 cops injured in cocktail explosion on patrol car in Uttara

Dhaka, Nov 6: A cocktail was thrown at a police patrol car in Uttara Housing Building area of the capital. The cocktail exploded and three policemen, including Uttara West Police Station SI Mahbub Ali, were injured. The attack took place in the Uttara housing building area on Sunday afternoon.

Former vice-president of Gazipur Mahanagar Chhatra Dal, Kazi Md. Hasan, has been arrested in connection with the cocktail throwing incident. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station Md. Masud Alam said that one person has been arrested in the case of cocktail throwing. It is initially known that he is the former vice-president of Gazipur Chhatra Dal. He is being interrogated in police custody.

It is noted that BNP is holding a 48-hour blockade programme from Sunday morning to demand the resignation of the government and the release of central leaders including Mirza Fakhrul. Their simultaneous movement partners are also observing this blockade. Besides, Jamaat-e-Islami is also observing this 48-hour blockade program separately.

Before this, BNP-Jamaat observed continuous blockade for the last three days of last week (October 31-November 2). Before that, they observed hartal on October 29. BNP, Jamaat and Awami League held a big rally in the capital on October 28. Around noon on that day, the people who came to the BNP rally started clashing with the people going to the Awami League rally near Kakrail intersection. At one point the residence of the Chief Justice was attacked and several vehicles were set on fire after the police intervened there. Journalists present were also severely beaten. After that, the police hurled sound grenades and tear shells and disrupted the BNP rally. As a result, the conflict spread all around. At one point, a policeman was beaten and hacked to death, several policemen were beaten and injured, and a police hospital was attacked and several ambulances were set on fire.
