3 die, 5 injured while travelling in Tangail

Dhaka, July 1: Three people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw while out for Eid in Tangail. Five others were injured in this incident.

The accident took place at Elenga of Kalihati Upazila on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway on Friday afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Md. Babu Mia (35), son of Shahjahan Mia and autorickshaw driver of South Collegepara Mahishkhola area of Tangail city, Md. Awal Mia (17) son of Atwar Mia from the same area and Md. Fakar (16) son of Abdur Ripon.

Raihan Mia, uncle of the deceased Awal Mia said, on the occasion of Eid, they 11 friends went out for a walk. On the way, their autorickshaw collided with the bus. Later, the locals rescued the injured and took them to the Tangail General Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared the three dead, including the auto driver. Besides, five people were sent to Dhaka for better treatment in serious condition. The bodies of the deceased have been brought home.

Elenga Highway Police Outpost In-charge Zahid Hasan said, a Gopalpur express bus was going from Dhaka to Gopalpur. At that time, the accident occurred in a head-on collision with a battery-operated autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction. The bus fled after the incident. However, the autorickshaw was taken into police custody.
