300 constituencies to be finalized before gazette publication

Dhaka, 4 June 2023 : The Election Commission (EC) has published the final gazette redrawing the boundaries of 300 parliamentary constituencies. The EC published the draft demarcation last February.

Later it received objections on the draft and held a hearing. After the hearing, the objections were scrutinized and the final gazette was published on June 1.

EC Secretary Md. According to the gazette notification signed by Jahangir Alam, Pirojpur-1 Constituency earlier consisted of Pirojpur Sadar, Nazirpur and Nesharabad upazilas. By redefining the boundaries of this constituency, Nesharabad Upazila has been excluded and Indurkani Upazila has been added. Indurkani Upazila was earlier a part of Pirojpur-2 Constituency. Meanwhile, Nesharabad upazila has been included with Pirojpur-2 parliamentary seat.

Ward No. 39 of Gazipur City Corporation has been added to Gazipur-2 Constituency. Earlier this ward was included in Gazipur-5 parliamentary seat.

Krishnapur Union of Sadarpur Upazila has been excluded from Faridpur-2 Constituency. Previously, Faridpur-4 Constituency had Sadarpur Upazila except this union, now the entire Sadarpur Upazila has been included.

Meghna Upazila has been excluded from Comilla-1 seat. Titas Upazila has been included. Meghna Upazila has been added to Comilla-2 parliamentary seat.

Noakhali-2 Parliamentary Constituency was earlier constituted of Bargaon, Nateshwar and Ambar Nagar of Senbagh Upazila and Sonaimuri Upazila. This time, apart from these three unions, Bajra union of Sonaimuri upazila has been added to Noakhali-2 constituency.
