4 individuals and organisations receive the International Mother Language Medal

Dhaka, February 22: On International Mother Language Day, three individuals and one organization received the International Mother Language Medal. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni handed over the medal on behalf of the Prime Minister for the first time on Sunday (February 21) at the International Mother Language Institute at Segunbagicha in the capital.

She said from now on, the medal will be awarded every two years at the national and international level for contribution to the preservation, revival and development of mother tongue.

On this day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the program of Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day and awarding of 'Mother Language Medal 2021'. The International Mother Language Institute has announced a four-day program on the occasion of Mother Language Day. The Prime Minister joined the inaugural ceremony by video conference from Ganobhaban.

National Professor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam has received this year's International Mother Language Medal-2021 for his contribution to the preservation, revival and development of mother tongue at the national level. Mathura Bikash Tripura, executive director of the Jabarang Welfare Society in Khagrachari, received the International Mother Language Medal for its contribution to the preservation of the language of small ethnic groups.

At the international level, Uzbek researcher Ismailov Gulam Mirzayevich and Bolivian online enterprise Activismmo Lenquas, which works with native Latin American languages, received the award from the Bangladesh government this year.

Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education Mahbub Hossain gave a welcome speech on the occasion. Poet Habibullah Siraj, Director General of Bangla Academy, presented the main article 'Bangabandhu in Language Movement'.

Beatrice Kaldun, UNESCO Representative in Bangladesh, joined the event via a video conference.
