4 Rohingya 'robbers' killed in Ukhiya camp

Dhaka, October 7: Four people have been killed in a shootout between two groups at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila. The residents of the camp identified them as 'robbers'. The incident took place at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp on Tuesday night. The situation there is still tense.

According to the Rohingyas, the four were killed in a series of shootings between the Munna group and the Arsa group over control of the camp, including drugs.

One of the top robbers is Munna's brother Gias Uddin alias Gechchari. The names of the rest could not be found. There are still shootings happening there.

Law enforcement is working to bring the situation under control.

Ukhiya Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ahmed Sanjur Morshed said, "Four Rohingyas were killed in the firing. The police are working there. Details will be announced later."

Cox's Bazar district Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Md. Rafiqul Islam said, "Four people were killed in the shelling by the bandits of the Ukhiya Rohingya camp. Police have recovered their bodies. Police are conducting an operation to catch the robbers."

It is to be noted that shelling was going on among the Rohingyas in the last few days.

Earlier, a second round of shelling, arson and vandalism took place around 8am on Sunday. Seven houses were burnt and 15 Rohingyas were injured. They have been admitted to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital and various NGO hospitals.
