439 India returnees in quarantine, three test positive for Covid

Dhaka, April 29: Bangladesh has closed its border with India as a new variant of the coronavirus is active. In this situation, many Bangladeshis who has visited the country for medical or emergency work are trapped. Many of them are returning home with the special permission of the Calcutta Sub-High Commission. The administration has sent the returning Bangladeshis to seven residential hotels in Benapole municipal area for 14 days.

After the border was closed, 439 Bangladeshis stranded in India returned to the country through Benapole land port from Monday evening to 5:30 pm on Wednesday.

Sixty-seven people have returned to India from Bangladesh. However, three of the incoming Bangladeshis have tested positive for the coronavirus. They went to India and got infected. The journey of any passport holder to India and Bangladesh has been stopped till now.

Meanwhile, Bangladeshis returning to India are in trouble as they do not have money to spend on treatment. It is known that he is spending his days helplessly in the institutional quarantine at his own expense. However, they are forced to obey government instructions and stay in the institutional quarantine.

Ashrafuzzaman, medical officer of the Benapole Immigration Health Department, said all Bangladeshis returning to India are in quarantine at six residential hotels in the Benapole port area. There all the costs have to be borne by the passengers.

He also said that the returning three Covid positive Bangladeshis have been kept in the red zone of the corona unit of Jessore Sadar Hospital.
