Dhaka, October 31: With the installation of the 35th span, 5,250 meters of the Padma Bridge became visible. At 2:40 pm on Saturday (October 31), the ‘Two-B’ span was placed on pillars 8 and 9 on the Mawa side.

Earlier, at around 9.15 am, a floating crane carrying a span of 150 meters from Mawa Construction Yard was brought to the pillar with a capacity of 3,600 tons.

Sources said the span was supposed to be installed on Friday. The schedule changes due to the navigability crisis.

Dredging all day on Thursday (October 29) brought the floating crane ‘Tian-e’ back to normal. The span was then taken by crane to the designated pillar on Saturday morning. At 2:40 pm, the span was placed on pillars 8 and 9.

Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor, is working on the construction of the main bridge and Sino Hydro Corporation, another company in the country, is working on river management.

The main shape of this multipurpose bridge, which is 6.15 km long, will be two-storied. The structure of the bridge is being constructed with concrete and steel. 41 spans will be installed on 42 pillars of Padma bridge. So far the 35th span has been installed.
