5.6 Magnitude earthquake strikes parts of north

Dhaka, April 6: A mild earthquake shook the northern part of the country. The quake lasted for about eight seconds at 9:38 pm on Monday (April 5). Its magnitude was 5.6 on the Richter scale. No damage was reported immediately after the quake.

A meteorological department official said the quake affected Rangpur, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Joypurhat and Rajshahi districts. The epicenter was reported below the Sikkim plateau in India. Which affected Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bhutan and China. The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.6. He said the epicenter of the quake was 300 km from Dhaka.

Earlier, on October 11 last year, tremors were felt in different parts of the country, including Dhaka. Its magnitude was 5.4 on the Richter scale.

According to the European-Mediterranean Earthquake Center (EMSC), the quake hit eastern Sikkim at 9:19 pm Bangladesh time on Monday (April 5). Its magnitude was 5.6 on the Richter scale.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake's epicenter was in the Bhutanese town of Samji, bordering Sikkim, at a depth of 8.4 km. As of USGS, the quake had only five magnitudes.
