Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 16: Five Indian trucks carrying bleaching powder caught fire at Benapole land port.

During the fire, the goods in the truck and other imported goods in the area were also partly burnt.

The incident took place at around 5 am on Friday (April 15) at the TTI terminal in Benapole land port. Four fire service units in collaboration with local villagers brought the fire under control in a three-hour effort.

Port officers and fire service officials said they will be able to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage after an investigation.

Witnesses said they saw a truck on fire in the port early in the morning and rushed to the scene. As soon as the fire spread, four more trucks in the vicinity also caught the fire. After receiving the news, four units of fire service with the help of local villagers brought the fire under control in three hours. The fire damaged five Indian trucks containing bleaching powder and various machineries in the port.

Meanwhile, traders have expressed their anger over the mismanagement of the port due to repeated fire incidents.

Benapole Port Director Md. Moniruzzaman said that there have been several incidents of fire from bleaching powder before. However, this time an investigation committee will be formed to determine the real cause of the fire and the amount of damage. The fire is now under control.
