Jessore Accident 5 killed as covered van rams into hotel in Jessore
Dhaka, December 3: Five people, including a father and son, were killed when a covered van ran over them in Jessore's Monirampur. The accident took place at Bagaritala area of Jessore-Monirampur road of the upazila at around 8 am on Friday (December 2).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manirampur Thana Police Sheikh Md. Moniruzzaman said this. The deceased are Habibur Rahman (45) and his son Tausi Hossain (7) of Bagaritla area of Monirampur, Ziarul (35) of Jaipur village, Tauhidur Rahman (38) and Mir Shamsul (60) of Bagaritla village.
Local resident Idris Ali said that a covered van bound for Satkhira from Jessore reached the Bagaritla area of Jessore-Monirampur road around 8 am on Friday and the driver lost control. At that time, the covered van hit at least ten shops along the road, including a hotel, and a tea shop. Five people including passers-by who came to have breakfast at the tea shop and hotel died.
OC Sheikh Md. Moniruzzaman said that the covered van hit at least ten shops. At least five people were killed. The bodies of the deceased have been kept in the mortuary of Sadar Hospital. The driver of the covered van fled after the incident. Legal action in this regard is under process.
