5 killed in bus-CNG collision in Bogra

Dhaka, February 23: Five passengers of a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, including its driver, were killed in a head-on collision with a long-distance bus in Bogra.

The accident took place today (Thursday) at around 12 pm in Sujabad area of Shajahanpur upazila on Bogra second bypass of Dhaka-Rangpur highway.

ASI Abbas Ali of Bogra's Kaigari outpost said that in a head-on collision between a Dhaka-bound Swadesh Travels bus from Gaibandha and a Dhunat upazila-bound CNG-powered autorickshaw, four passengers of the autorickshaw died on the spot and a child and another person were injured. They were rushed to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital by locals. Later, the child died at the hospital.

Police said the identity of three of the deceased in the accident has been known. They are CNG driver Hazrat Ali, a resident of Kadamtali in Gabtali upazila, Noornavi Badsha of Parirbari area of Dhunat, and Shahana Begum of Kolakopa village in Gabtali upazila. The remaining two are yet to be identified.

After the accident, the crowd set the bus on fire. Later, fire service personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control. However, by then the bus was gutted.

The police impounded the bus, though its driver and assistant escaped.
