5 people to be hanged in UP member murder case

Dhaka, January 19: A court has ordered the execution of five accused, including their brothers and sisters, in the murder case of former UP member Ashraf Ali at Ghior in Manikganj. At the same time, 13 accused in the case have been acquitted. Manikganj Additional Sessions Judge Shahana Haque Siddique passed the order on Tuesday (January 19) at noon.

The convicts are Manjur Rahman, son of Shahid of Fulhara village in Ghior, Babul Mia, son of Rahiz Uddin, Azizul Haque, son of Gagan Khan and Feli Begum, daughter of Gagan Khan.

According to the summary of the case, on June 18, 2013, due to a land dispute, the opposition killed Ashraf Ali, a former UP member from Fulhara village. His brother Mansur Ali filed a case in the name of 25 people. Police filed a complaint in the name of 18 people.

The court on Tuesday (January 19th) sentenced Manzur Rahman, Moazzem Hossain, Babul Mia, Azizul Haque and Feli Begum to death.

The court also acquitted Gagan Khan, Shahid Dewan, Raja Mia, Belayet Hossain, Monowara Begum, Rashida Begum, Rehena Begum, Monowara Begum-2, Renu Begum, Selina Begum, Sayedur Rahman, Arman Ali and Rezia Begum.

Niranjan Basak was the state counsel in the case and Lutfar Rahman conducted the case on behalf of the accused.
