5 vehicles catch fire after oil tanker overturns in Savar, 2 killed

Dhaka, April 2: An oil tanker overturned and caught fire in Dhaka's Savar, burning five vehicles. Two people died in this incident, while eight others were severely injured.

The incident took place in Jorpul area of Hemayetpur in the early hours of Tuesday (April 2). Three fire service units brought the fire under control. Traffic on the Dhaka-Aricha highway was stopped for about two hours after the incident. As a result, severe traffic jams are created.

The injured are Milan Mollah (22), Meem (5), Al Amin (35), Niranjan (45), Helal (30), Md. Alamin (22), Abdus Salam (35), and Saqib (24). They have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

According to local sources, an oil tanker overturned and caught fire at around 6:30 am in Jorpul area. At that time, four trucks and a private car were caught fire. After receiving the information, the fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

Two people named Iqbal and Nazrul Islam died in this incident. Deceased Iqbal's house is in Chowagacha Upazila of Jessore. He worked as a cement transporter on a burnt track. Details about Nazrul Islam are not known.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Highway Police Station Md. Babul said, "After receiving the information, police reached the spot and helped in the rescue work and are working to normalize the traffic on the road."
