500 affected Hindu devotees receive aid from Prime Minister Hasina in Noakhali

Dhaka, October 23: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sent gifts to 500 Hindu devotees who were injured in an attack on a puja marquee and a temple at Chaumuhani in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Khorshed Alam Khan distributed the gifts on Thursday night (October 21).

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Khorshed Alam Khan told Dhaka Post, “We have distributed 500 packets of dry food from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina among the devotees of various temples in Chaumuhani. In addition, we have provided financial assistance of Tk 30,000 in cash to the family of one injured person for his treatment. Such support will continue among the affected temples and families.

Noakhali-3 MP Mamunur Rashid Kiran, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Shahidul Islam, District Council Chairman Dr. ABM Zafar Ullah, Chaumuhani Municipality member Khaled Saifullah; Begumganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahnaz Begum; and Assistant Commissioner of District Administration Angyajai Marma were present.

Incidentally, on Friday (October 15) at noon, the attackers clashed with the police at Chaumuhani in Noakhali due to the violence surrounding the incident at the Puja Mandap in Comilla. One person named Jatan Saha (42) was killed in the incident. Additional Superintendent of Police (Begumganj Circle) Mohammad Shah Imran said 18 people, including policemen, were injured.

Later on Saturday (October 16) morning, the body of a devotee named Pranta Das (20) was found in the pond of ISKCON temple. In violation of Section 144, the followers of traditional religions took out protest processions in the streets. Police have arrested 130 accused in 18 cases in connection with the attack on various puja mandals in the district.
