DU Convocation 53rd convocation of Dhaka University today
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Nov 19: The 53rd convocation of Dhaka University (DU), the country's traditional institution, is today.
The convocation ceremony will be held on Saturday (November 19) at 12 noon at the central playground of the university. In the meantime, all preparations including overall security have been completed. A festive atmosphere prevails in the university campus around the convocation.
On the occasion of the convocation, the university administration has done various beautification works including strengthening security, eviction of mobile shops, and cleanliness in Dhaka University campus. However, the university did not light this time to save electricity.
President and Acharya of Dhaka University Md. Abdul Hamid will preside over the 53rd convocation of the university. Nobel laureate French economist Professor Dr. Jean Tirole will be present as a speaker. He will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. The 53rd convocation exercises were held on Friday at the university's central playground. Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Muhammad Samad, Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal, Treasurer Professor Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed, Registrar Prabir Kumar Sarkar, Deans of various faculties, Senate, Members of Syndicate and Academic Council and Graduates participated.
30,348 graduates and researchers have registered to participate in the convocation. 153 gold medals, 97 PhD, 2 DBA, and 35 M Phil degrees will be awarded to 131 meritorious teachers, researchers, and students. Registered graduates of seven affiliated colleges will participate in the convocation from Dhaka College and Eden Women's College venues through digital technology.
Graduates of Dhaka University will enter the convocation venue through the gate adjacent to the swimming pool of the playground. The gates will be opened for them at 9:30 am and they must take their seats at the convocation venue by 11 am. After taking their respective seats at the venue, no movement around the stage and anywhere else will be allowed. Invited guests will enter the convocation venue through the gate adjacent to the gymnasium. The gates will be opened for them at 10 am and they must take their seats at the convocation venue by 11:30 am. Masks are mandatory to enter the venue. All classes and examinations of the university will be closed today on the occasion of convocation.
