585 arrested on the ninth day of lockdown in Dhaka, fines worth Tk 10 lakh collected

Dhaka, July 10: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 585 people for disobeying government directives on the ninth day of the hard lockdown. At the same time, 129 individuals and organizations have been fined Tk 1,57,650 by mobile courts.

Besides, a fine of Tk 8,92,500 had been imposed on 414 vehicles during the traffic department's operation. On Friday (July 9), on the ninth day of the lockdown, eight divisions of the DMP took legal action against these individuals. A total of 5,649 people have been arrested in the capital amid the hard lockdown.

Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department said, "A total of 585 people have been arrested from Ramna, Lalbagh, Motijheel, Wari, Tejgaon, Mirpur, Gulshan and Uttara areas by the eight divisions of the DMP from morning till evening on the ninth day. The DMP-run mobile courts and the traffic department have filed a case against 414 vehicles and imposed fines of Tk 8,92,500 for venturing out on the road."

ADC Iftekhairul Islam said law and order forces were active in the capital on the ninth day to implement the lockdown, imposed to keep the spread of virus in check.

Earlier, on Thursday (July 8), the eighth day of the strict ban, 1,077 people were arrested for disobeying government instructions. Three hundred and eighteen individuals and organizations were fined Tk 16,00,790 by the mobile courts. Besides, a fine of Tk 21,53,000 was imposed on 937 vehicles in the traffic department's operation.
