Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 8: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the historical 6-Point demand raised by Bangabandhu was a 'Magna Carta' for independence, the certificate of emancipation of Bengalis. It prepared the people for the independence of the country.

She said, "The 6-Point demand was to fully prepare the people for the independence of the country and to prepare the people for participation in the Liberation War."

The Prime Minister said this while addressing a discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Awami League on the occasion of the historic 6-Point day on Tuesday, June 7. She virtually attended the meeting, which was held at the party office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue, from her official residence Ganobhaban.

The Prime Minister and the President of the Awami League said, "Later, the six points turned into one point and we achieved our independence by following one point, and the election of 1970 was on the basis of these six points."

She said that the 6-Point was a 'Magna Carta' to fully prepare the people in the spirit of freedom and to prepare them for the war of liberation. From there we moved to one point and gained independence.

Sheikh Hasina said that these 6 points were basically one point for achieving independence of Bangladesh. What the father of the nation used to point out was showing the claws of one hand and the index finger of the other hand and again he was emphasizing on the index finger, that is actually one point. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had strong faith and confidence which actually came from his courage, honesty, faith and foresight and that is why we have achieved independence.

Mentioning that Bangabandhu himself had formulated 6-Point demand, Sheikh Hasina said that while working in Alpha Insurance, Bangabandhu's then personal assistant who later became the first elected mayor of Dhaka, Mohammad Hanif, typed the points mentioned by Bangabandhu through typewriter machine.

Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader gave the introductory speech. The party's publicity and publication secretary Dr. Abdus Sobhan Golap, MP, conducted the meeting from Ganobhaban.
