60 succumb to coronavirus in a day

Dhaka, May 1: In the last 24 hours, 60 people have died of coronavirus in the country. So far, a total of 11,510 people have died in the country with coronavirus. At the time, 1,452 people had been newly diagnosed with the disease. This brought the overall number patients in Bangladesh to 7,60,584.

In the last 24 hours, 3,245 people have recovered from the disease, according to a regular press release from the Department of Health. So far, a total of 6,84,671 people have recovered.

Meanwhile, 14,821 samples were collected in 24 hours and 15,117 were tested.

The detection rate is 9.61 percent as compared to the sample test. So far a total of 54,84,821 samples have been tested in the country. Compared to the total test, the detection rate is 13.87 percent.

Of the 60 people who died in the last 24 hours, 37 were from Dhaka division. Besides, 19 people died in Chittagong, 5 each in Rajshahi and Khulna, 1 in Barisal and 2 in Rangpur divisions.

Of those killed in 24 hours, 37 were men and 23 were women. All of them died at the hospital.

Of the 11,510 people who have died from the virus so far, 8,390 are males and 3,120 are females.

On March 8 last year, the first 3 people in the country were diagnosed with coronavirus. Ten days later, on March 18, the first person to be infected with the virus died in the country.
