Dhaka, Jan 25: Law Minister Anisul Huq said if the policy-makers want, efforts will be taken to clarify the matter of "648 Members of Parliament (MP)".

The minister said this in response to questions from journalists after a meeting with Isa Bin Yusuf Al-Duhailan, the ambassador of Saudi Arabia appointed to Bangladesh, on Thursday (January 25) at the Secretariat.

"It is said that there are now 648 MPs in the parliament. It is being discussed and criticized. The previous cabinet was dissolved when the ministers were sworn in. But even if the parliament members take oath, the previous parliament is not dissolved. Do you think there is ambiguity in the law in that case or not?" — when he was asked whether initiatives will be taken to clarify it or not, the Law Minister said, "The matter is what is in the constitution now, the country is running as it is and it has not been inserted in the constitution today. It was added in the Fourteenth Amendment. The matter being discussed now is not very important. Still, I would say, if the policy-makers feel there is a need for further clarification, it will be seen."

Regarding whether you as the law minister think it is necessary to clarify or not, he said, "I said, if the policy-makers think there is a need to clarify, then it will be considered."
