Dhaka, October 22: About six and a half lakh women workers of Bangladesh are working in different countries of the world. Therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised all citizens of the country to be vigilant so that the demand for their repatriation is not raised due to misreporting of news due to 'one or two isolated incidents'.

The suggestion was made at the 16th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (October 21).

The meeting held at the parliament building was chaired by committee chairman Muhammad Farooq Khan, foreign minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, Nurul Islam Nahid, Golam Farooq Khandaker Prince, Md. Abdul Majid Khan and Md. Habibe Millat.

The meeting informed that the migrant workers who could not return to their workplaces due to the ongoing epidemic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through fruitful diplomatic contacts with the host countries, extended the validity of expired visas, iqama (work permits), etc., and arranged for their return on special flights.

A total of 560 stranded expatriates have been repatriated on special flights to Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

It was further informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken necessary steps to create new jobs for the expatriates due to Coronavirus, repatriate the stranded Bangladeshi nationals, send the stranded expatriates to their respective workplaces and special aviation.

In addition, despite the fact that officials from several ministries have served in Bangladesh missions abroad, the challenges posed by the Kovid-19 epidemic have been successfully addressed as joint efforts continue on the basis of the 'One Country, One Mission' culture.

The meeting recommended how to keep the wheel of the economy moving by adapting to the environment created in Corona.

Therefore, in order to strengthen economic diplomacy by keeping in touch with the world, emphasis is laid on the export of products made in Bangladesh.

In this regard, emphasis was laid on informing the missions of Bangladesh abroad about the needs of that country to Dhaka and adopting a plan by formulating an outline in that light.

During the meeting, the newly appointed ambassadors to Bangladesh missions in Canada and Indonesia outlined their responsibilities in those countries.

At that time, the committee recommended to the Ambassador to Indonesia, Air Vice Marshal Mostafizur Rahman, to work for the support of Indonesia on behalf of Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue.
