Dhaka, April 12: The government is going for a new tough lockdown from April 14 (Wednesday). This will be in the form of a general holiday given during the first stage of pandemic. The notification of the lockdown announcement may be issued today, Monday (April 12).

An official from the cabinet department said this on Sunday (April 11).

"Government, private and autonomous institutions will be closed from 6 am on April 14. We are not talking about public holidays or anything like that. Public transport and banks will be closed. But industries, including garments, will remain open. Emergency services will remain open for the time being." We can say that based on the discussions that have taken place," the official said.

Initially this lockdown has been imposed for seven days. The official also said that its term will be extended at a later time.

Earlier, a virtual meeting was held on the issue. The meeting was attended by top officials of the Cabinet Division, Prime Minister's Office, law enforcement agencies as well as top officials of the concerned ministries.

Asked about this, Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division (District and Field Administration Division) Sheikh Rafiqul Islam told Jago News, "There has been a lockdown since the 14th. Detailed information on the matter will be in the notification. The notification may be issued by Monday."

The government imposed a seven-day lockdown from 6 a.m. on April 5 as coronavirus (Covid-19) infections continued to rise at an alarming rate. The ban will expire at 12 midnight on Sunday. In a circular issued on April 4, 11 instructions have been given by the cabinet department to comply with the ban.

When the ban started, the employees of the open government and private offices suffered due to lack of public transport. Passengers protested in different places without getting public transport. At the same time, the owners and workers started a movement to open shops and markets.

Meanwhile, on April 8, public transport was opened in the city corporation area. Buses are running from six in the morning to six in the evening. However, the movement of shopping mall and shop owners and workers was going on.

Finally, from April 9 to April 13 from 9 am to 5 pm, the Cabinet Division issued instructions on Thursday (April 8) that shops and shopping malls could be kept open in compliance with strict hygiene rules.
