Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 19: People are not coming forward to take a booster dose of Corona. Booster dose has not been administered to even 20 percent of people so far. In the meantime, the government has set a target of vaccinating about 75 lakh people in a day with the aim of giving booster doses.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said these at a press conference organized in the conference room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of Mohakhali on Monday (July 18).

He said that the Booster Dose Day drive will be run from 9 am to 4 pm on Tuesday (July 19). To hold the vaccination drive properly, 16,181 vaccination centres (623 permanent and 15,558 temporary) have been set up across the country.

It was informed in the press conference that 33,246 vaccination workers and 49,869 volunteers will work simultaneously in the drive. The 18 years and above population who received the second dose before four months can take the booster (third) dose and the 18 years and above population who did not receive the second dose after the specified period of time for receiving the first dose can take the second dose.

The Health Minister said that the Bangladesh government has already given the first dose to 76.5 percent of the country's total population, second dose to 70.3 percent people and booster (third) dose to 17.9 percent people to control the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Despite the global shortage of vaccines, the Bangladesh government is determined to provide the country's vast population with the Covid-19 vaccine. For your information, there are currently 2.78 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine in the country of five types (AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sinovac and Johnson & Johnson)," he said.
