755 people arrested-detained by DMP on the first day of the hard lockdown

Dhaka, July 2: On the first day of the hard lockdown, 755 people were either arrested or detained by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for disobeying government instructions. Eight divisions of the DMP took legal action against these individuals on Thursday (July 1).

Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department, said day-long checkposts were set up. Mobile courts and patrols were conducted across the capital to enforce government-imposed restrictions on lockdowns.

During the day, 497 people were detained by the police for leaving their homes without a valid reason. In addition, another 258 people were arrested for violating restrictions.

A total of 232 people were detained in Tejgaon area. Besides, 55 people were detained in Ramna, four in Wari, 75 in Mirpur and seven in Gulshan. The highest number of arrests was 38 in Lalbagh, 3 in Wari and 32 in Uttara.

DMP has filed cases against a total of 274 vehicles in the operation conducted by the traffic department, 77 vehicles were seized. And the amount of fine imposed on the car by the traffic department was Tk 4,63,050. A total of six people were arrested with car-related charges and pressed with legal action.

Meanwhile, the DMP-run mobile court arrested 76 people and sentenced 81 others. Meanwhile, the mobile court fined the general public Tk 45,557 and fined a total of 26 businesses Tk 1,02,150.

Regarding the lockdown, DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said on Thursday morning that only those who are allowed to go out in the notification are going out today. However, after following the rules initially, many try to disobey. However, DMP members are on the ground to implement the lockdown.
