80 lakh people to be vaccinated during mass vaccination of second dose across Bangladesh

Dhaka, October 28: Thes second phase of the mass vaccination took place in the country on Thursday, where the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine was administered. The activity started at 9:00 am and continued till 3:00 pm.

In the morning, Dr Shamsul Haque, line director of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and member secretary of the vaccination system committee, said that even if the target was met in two days for the first dose, the second dose would vaccinate eight million (80 lakh) people in one day. All preparations have been completed for that purpose. Vaccines have been sent to all districts.

He said the vaccination program will be continued even after 3:00 pm if necessary. The campaign will be in all city corporations, municipalities and upazilas of the country. Today only the second dose of vaccine will be given.

On the occasion of the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, those who took the first dose of the vaccine on September 28 will be able to take the second dose today by showing the vaccination card. The first dose of vaccine was supposed to be given to eight million people in one day on September 28, but it was not possible. As a result, 80 lakh 93 thousand 236 people were vaccinated with the first dose on September 29, by adding one more day.

Corona vaccination activities started in the country on January 27 this year. On the same day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the program at Kurmitola Hospital in the capital through Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. Mass vaccination activities started from February 7 all over the country.

Since then, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna and Sinopharm vaccines have been used to vaccinate people across the country for more than eight months.
