90.93 lakh animal sacrificed on Eid

Dhaka, July 24: This year, 90,93,000 animals have been sacrificed across the country on the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Of these 40,53,679 were cows and buffaloes, 50,38,848 were goats and sheep and 715 other cattle.

Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Public Relations Officer Md Iftekhar Hossain said this on Saturday (July 24).

He said that in Dhaka division nine lakh 73 thousand 833 cows and buffaloes, 12 lakh 65 thousand 57 goats and sheep and 363 other cattle- for a total of 22 lakh 39 thousand 252 animals were slaughtered.

In Chittagong division, 10 lakh 71 thousand 231 cows and buffaloes, 8 lakh 28 thousand 86 goats and sheep and 201 other cattle- for a total 18 lakh 99 thousand 518 animals were slaughtered.

In Rajshahi division, six lakh 16 thousand 733 cows and buffaloes, 12 lakh 16 thousand 283 goats and sheep and 129 other cattle- for a total of 18 lakh 33 thousand 145 animals were slaughtered.

A total of eight lakh 57 thousand 601 cattle, including two lakh 39 thousand 148 cows and buffaloes, six lakh 18 thousand 443 goats and sheep and 11 others have been sacrificed in Khulna division.

He also said that in Barisal division, two lakh 8 thousand 721 cows and buffaloes, one lakh 95 thousand 358 goats and sheep and a total of four lakh 81 thousand 989.

In Sylhet division, two lakh nine thousand 579 cows and buffaloes, one lakh 99 thousand 364 goats, sheep and 6 others, including a total of four lakh eight thousand 941.

Rangpur division has four lakh 96 thousand 220 cows and buffaloes, five lakh 46 thousand 739 goats and sheep and a total of 10 lakh 44 thousand 759.

In Mymensingh division, one lakh 70 thousand 325 cows and buffaloes, one lakh 7 thousand 819 goats, sheep and three others along with a total of three lakh 46 thousand 946 cattle have been sacrificed.

According to the Department of Livestock, there were a total of one crore 19 lakh 16 thousand 765 sacrificial cattle including 45 lakh 47 thousand cows and buffaloes, 73 lakh 65 thousand goats and sheep and 4 thousand 765 other animals.

In 2020, the number was one crore 18 lakh 97 thousand 500. Of these, about 94 lakh 50 thousand 263 animals were sacrificed.
