948 km of new railway line constructed in 15 years: Prime Minister

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 29 February 2024: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that 948 km of new railway lines have been constructed in the country in the last 15 years. On Wednesday, February 28, during the question and answer session of the Jatiya Sangsad session, he said this in response to a question asked by Anwar Hossain Khan, Member of Parliament for Laxmipur-1 Constituency. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.

The Prime Minister said that a total of 99 new projects have been taken up by the Railway Department in the last 15 years. In the ADP of 2023-24 financial year, 25 investment projects and 3 technical assistance projects in Bangladesh Railways i.e. total 28 development projects are ongoing.

Apart from this, as per the 30-year Railway Master Plan including the achievement of Vision 2041, steps have been taken to construct railway double line tracks, integrate gauges, introduce modern signaling system, improve rail connectivity with sea ports, introduce upgraded locomotives and introduce electric traction. The Prime Minister also said that 947.99 kilometers of new railway lines have been constructed in the country in the last 15 years for the development of railways.
