Dhaka, Sept 2: Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina said that they had been blamed and slandered while building the Padma Bridge.

A person had to be placed as MD of a bank — a big country had put pressure on this. If he is not kept as MD, they will not give the Padma bridge loan. Then I said, I will build the Padma Bridge with my own money. We have done it and shown it to the world. Bangladesh can, the people of Bangladesh can. The father of the nation said, no one can keep us in check. But we are that nation.

The Prime Minister said this at the Chhatra League students meeting at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Friday. She said to the Chhatra League, keep it clean where you read. Do not leave any land uncultivated in your house. Those who have uncultivated land will be encouraged to grow crops. More trees should be planted. The Russia-Ukraine war and the impact of Covid have disrupted the global economy. At this time, if everyone pays attention to production, no one will have to give a hand.

She also tasked the Chhatra League leaders and activists to encourage the common people about the pension scheme in their area. The Prime Minister said that Bangladesh brought forward by the father of the nation has been pushed back again by his assassination. We came and brought Bangladesh from that place again. Freedom should not fail. We take measures so that the benefits of freedom reach every home.

Sheikh Hasina said, "I have only one goal, to develop and enrich Bangladesh. In the words of the poet, 'I will make this world habitable, this is my promise to the newborn.' I have no fear. You (Chhatra League) have to play the role of a watchman so that no one can disrupt the progress of Bangladesh. I will also tell you, you have to study. Education, peace, progress, principles of Chhatra League."

Quoting Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina said, "The first requirement of political institutions is proper leadership. Political institutions cannot run without proper leadership."
