Dhaka, November 22: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen has called upon all the concerned parties of Bangladesh and India to work to bring border killings to zero. India's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call on the Foreign Minister at the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday (November 21). Meanwhile, the minister called on those concerned about the border killings.

Dr. Momen wished the new High Commissioner a successful tenure in Bangladesh. He said Bangladesh considers India as its closest and most important neighbor. This relationship is strong and unique.

He said that both countries are inextricably linked through historical, cultural, social and economic ties. In the last 50 years, Bangladesh-India relations have reached unprecedented heights under the visionary leadership of the Prime Ministers of both countries. He also recalled the important role played by the people and the Government of India during the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The foreign minister said that Bangladesh's economic development is complementary to India's economic development in many ways. Bangladesh is positioned as a regional connectivity hub and being India's closest neighbor can benefit from the connectivity vision envisioned by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Regarding the Indo-Pacific region, Momen stressed the need for free and fair connectivity among the countries of the region based on international rules and norms. The foreign minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government's policy of 'zero tolerance' against terrorism and radicalism has paved the way for establishing peace and stability in the northeastern states of India.

The Indian High Commissioner said, wherever I go in Bangladesh, I am warmly welcomed. It is an honor to work in Bangladesh. We want to work on matters of mutual interest to further strengthen the existing excellent relations between the two countries.

Pranay Verma said, India expects active participation of Bangladesh in this meeting to promote issues of mutual interest in G20 global discussions. The High Commissioner emphasized working together in the multilateral arena in support of each country's candidates.

Momen-Verma emphasized on enhancing ties between Bangladesh and India's Northeast to strengthen long-standing ties.
