Dhaka, January 10: Harun-or-Rashid, chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB), has commented that a group of Jamaat-Shibir activists is spreading rumors about the banks and financial sector of the country through social media campaigns. He made this comment in the context of the disclosure of such information through various media that there have been "irregularities" in Islami Bank.

In this regard, the DB chief said, Islami Bank is a reputed bank in the country. It was once occupied by anti-independence fighters, including Mir Kashim Ali, who was convicted of war crimes. Later, when the bank was freed from the occupation of the anti-independence forces, Jamaat-Shibir started spreading misinformation about its management. The anti-national gang tries to create a crisis of confidence in the banking sector among the common people. The main objective of this gang is to destabilize the country's financial sector and bring the government into disrepair.

Harun-or-Rashid said these in a press conference at DMP Media Center on Minto Road in the capital on Monday (January 9) at 12:30 pm. The press conference was about the arrest of five people for spreading rumours. Those five are Mohammad Noor Un Nabi, Md. Afsar Uddin Roman, Md. Abu Saeed Saju, Md. Swadhin Mia and Md. Abdus Salam.

Harun said about them, "The arrested are accused of spreading rumors in the country. Besides, their associates are spreading rumors about the banking sector on social media in different countries of the world. They are encouraging expatriates to send remittances. I got the names of many of this racket. Even former directors and officers of Islami Bank are in this circle. We have got the names of all and will take action against them soon."

Meanwhile, Harun-or-Rashid, DMP Additional Police Commissioner and DB chief, said that Jamaat-Shibir is carrying out false propaganda related to banking in the name of chairmen of various institutions including S. Alam Group. Although they are spreading false propaganda that thousands of crores of rupees were being looted in the banking sector, they could not provide any evidence in this regard later.
