Dhaka, October 13: About half of the population in Bangladesh's capital city Dhaka is affected by the novel coronavirus, a new report suggests.

There is no substitute for adhering to hygiene to prevent stage infections.

At present, the people of the country are losing the preparation for corona resistance.

It is uncertain when the coronavirus vaccine will arrive.

So, wearing a mask and following hygiene is the best way to stay free from the coronavirus infection.

Many coronavirus patients in the capital did not have any signs or symptoms.

From the elite to the slum dwellers, men and women of all ages are being affected by coronavirus.

Therefore, it is necessary to continue the practice of following the hygiene and rules regardless of who has the disease and who does not.

Coronavirus prevention and control will be difficult without public participation.

On Monday (October 12), USAID-sponsored Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) and ICDDR,B jointly conducted a survey report titled 'Prevalence, Sero-Surveillance and Genomic Epidemiology of Covid-19 in Dhaka'.

According to the research report, 45 percent of the people in the capital have been infected with coronavirus.

24 percent of the victims are over 60 years of age.

This information was found in the antibody test till last July.

The report further said that about three-quarters of the people in the slums of Dhaka city have already been infected.

Tests found that 45 percent of city dwellers who had no symptoms of coronavirus were infected.

Out of 129 wards of Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporation, 25 wards were selected for the study on random basis.

A neighbourhood is selected from each ward.

120 houses from each neighbourhood were included in the survey.

In addition, eight slums were included in the survey.

Samples of common food in Dhaka city are collected from mid-April to mid-July.

Samples of slum dwellers are collected from mid-July to the end of August.

Analysing the coronavirus gene, the researchers estimate that the first coronavirus infection occurred in the country in mid-February.

Additional Director General of the Department of Health (Planning and Development) Professor Dr. Mirzadi Sebrina Flora presided over the virtual event which was attended by Health Minister Zahid Maleque.
