ACC files chargesheet against BNP leader Mirza Abbas and his wife

Dhaka, December 28: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has issued a charge sheet against BNP leader Mirza Abbas and his wife Afroza Abbas in the case of acquiring illegal wealth of Rs 20 crore 74 lakh 47 thousand. On Tuesday (December 27), the investigating officer and deputy director of the ACC Mohammad Nurul Huda filed the chargesheet in the court.

He said that the wealth of Tk 20 crore 74 lakh 47 thousand 828 in the name of Afroza Abbas was actually acquired from income from illegal sources with the help and medium of her husband Mirza Abbas.

He said, Mirza Abbas was a Member of Parliament, Minister and Mayor of Dhaka City Corporation from 1991 to 1995 and Minister of Housing and Public Works from 2001 to 2006. He acquired that wealth in the name of Afroza Abbas till August 16, 2007 through bribery and corruption on the basis of being a Member of Parliament, Mayor and Minister.

It is known that the investigation of the ACC has proved the crime of illegal asset transfer, conversion and concealment of location, and against the investigating officer Afroza Abbas and her husband Mirza Abbas, Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Section 109 of the Penal Code and also Prevention of Laundering Act, 2008; The complaint has been filed under section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2009 and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012.

On July 7, 2019, Md Salahuddin, the former assistant director and investigating officer of the ACC, filed the case at Shahjahanpur police station in the capital. Assets worth Rs 20 crore 76 lakh 92 thousand were alleged in the case.
